Either way, there was Bleach and Naruto this week. Naruto finally got back to the part that matters. And Bleach, well, it continued being Bleach, and really didn't get anywhere except to actually take some time setting up plot-relevant information. Which was nice.
Unohana just didn't say what I wanted her to say.

*fine, I'm putting spoiler tags*
*spoilers*
I was expecting her to say something that would heighten her own power...let us know that she's on Captain Broken's level...but instead, she actually said something that confirms a number of theories and also sets up another plot point. Now, standard rules of drama say that it can go one of two ways: either Ichigo sees the shikai release and has to find a flaw in its design, or Ichigo will have to fight to not see it. Of course, the money really leads toward the former.
HOWEVER...
Bleach has already defied a number of rules. Perhaps the most grievous violation being "When you introduce a threat that is stronger than the strongest good guys and the good guys outnumber this threat, certain good guys are going to die sacrificing themselves against them." It broke that one to pieces. Words said in dramatic expository tones have proven empty later on.
It is also straying dangerously close to violating the ultimate rule of doors in stories: when a door is revealed to be locked and a key's presence is made known, the key will be used to unlock the door. It's a law that's older than written word. Pandora's Box is an example. Which actually traces its origins even further back to the absolute very beginning, when God put a lock on the Forbidden Fruit. He said, "Do not eat." And Adam and Eve ate.
Trace it onward through every sort of literature. Pandora's Box. The winds of Aeolus. Several instances with King Arthur and his knights. The wardrobe to Narnia. Pippin and the Palantir. Raiders of the Lost Ark. When Luke Skywalker was told to stay behind on the Death Star but found out that there was a door to the princess, he went to that door. Final Fantasy VI. Ocarina of Time. Avatar: the Last Airbender, many, many, many times. Remember Zhao and the Moon Spirit? Aang said that he had no idea what kind of imbalance a murder of the Moon Spirit could bring...and sure enough, we got to have an idea. The third-floor corridor in Hogwarts.
And this is not just literature and fiction. Any number of instances have happened in the Bible, in history, and I'm sure in your lives. Door-peeping might not be the exact case here, but tell me the last story that you've encountered where a door and a key showed up but weren't opened....
Speaking of doors, FMA comes out this week. YAAAAAAAI!!!
Unohana was fun in this chapter.
And Mayuri is back to his old evil ways. Very good. I like him evil.
And Yammy is a complete joke. A JOKE.
Good manga coming out soon, though.
PRAXIS next Saturday. I am...TOTALLY unprepared.
I need to study my math.
Oh, and it's my dad's birthday today. So I'm gonna wish him a happy one.
Devious Comments
I actually think Ichigo's battle with Aizen will go the latter route. Not that this guarantees a good resolution, but limits within a plot/the pursuit of knowledge/human history/what have you exist only to be broken. Nothing changes if you're content within the defined boundaries, and the turning of that key either condemns or saves you. Sometimes both.
And of course, that ties to the instances where a key doesn't actually exist and must be made somehow...usually by an action previously thought inconceivable. (Such as, following the original sin example, having the Son of God pay the penalty in mankind's place.)
*sigh*
Happy birthday to your dad!

"Lord, grant that I may always desire to do more than I can accomplish."
It was just a Bleach fix-fic, where in an alternate universe, Harribel used her surprising release to cut into Yama and then mortally wound him...which keeps him alive, at least, but is still impressive enough to keep her name impressive. And also draws Komamura in, so that it's two captains on one Espada, making it seem fairer...and also heightening the drama. "Oh, noez! The leader has fallen! Can the captains rally themselves?" It was mostly just turning the manga into words (I went from Harribel's release up until Barragan's release), but it was turning the manga into 1600 words!!! What a waste!!!
But it actually fit pretty neatly...see, now that Unohana has said, "We're all useless against him," there's no reason to keep Yama-jii in on the fight! You can keep him alive, just have Harribel incapacitate him! Cut HIS right side off!
Or rather, scratch him and then use her water-mastery to rip the blood out of his veins in a nightmarish power...basically, she nicks you, you're dead. Hence, no nicks. But he survives because he's Yama-jii.
BAAAAAAH. Tite Kubo is doing to me what Twilight did to some other people! It's so bad but such a great concept that I want to patch it up and make it better! I want to view it as a challenge, a writing exercise, and bandage the broken limbs!
I have to go to Latin and then anime club! And I actually went and was productive today, and got my paperwork registration from my old doctor (well, filled out the release forms, anyway) and found a CVS where they were selling the value-packs of Peanut M$M's (normally about five bucks each) for eighty-eight cents apiece!!!
It's been a successful day so far!
Getting up early (or not going to sleep...same thing...) has its advantages!!!
I'm probably going to find that I bombed my Latin exam and then cry myself to sleep at seven-o-clock, but I don't care right now, because I've been productive today!
AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

....I shudder to think of how much caffeine you've ingested in the past twelve hours.
Now march off to Latin and anime club, and don't speak with me again (not much of a threat, but still) until you get some sleep.

Oh well, at least we've still got the Starrk and Halibel fights to look forward to. Right? You two?
My hopes for what is going to happen is completely different from how this is setting up- The World of Ruin theory. The idea that Aizen's going to succeed in his plan and extend the life of the manga a few decades with everyone in a twisted, Kefka-brand world. Just getting my hopes up that this might potentially end up sort of cool. Maybe.
Yay, a new month, a new couple of awesome manga issues! Joy!

The glass is half fullmpty.
The answer is always tralse.
I didn't get my Latin exam back. But all-in-all, it was a pretty good day. Now I'm killing time until the laundry machines downstairs are done and I can wash my clothes. Wash, dry, and in two hours, I'll be going beddie-bye.
