...this should be an easy title, but whatever.

I'm indecisive.

Whatever the case, just got back from an abbreviated (curse you, brother's-workplace, for forcing some of us to return early!) vacation-slash-family-reuinion. Paternal grandparents' fiftieth anniversary (take THAT, modern-day-society!) meant everyone getting together at a resort spot in northern Michigan (Crystal Mountain, Charlie!). Lakes, golf courses, chairlifts, woods, pools, all that sort of stuff...

The whole family--all eleven of us--wore Penguins t-shirts on the way up. It had absolutely nothing to do with some of our uncles and aunts...and our grandparents...being Red Wings fans. Nope. Absolutely nothing. Heh. Heh. Heh. It was also fun sitting in a restaurant on the way up without any shame at all while less than a hundred miles from Detroit.

Fun.

But whatever the case, it was good to catch up with the relatives...talk, hang out, campfire, all that stuff. It's very amusing how some of my cousins are even more antisocial than I am. So you have one big, antisocial horde. Well, a number of people were more willing to bond, but...there's a fun dynamic.

We went canoeing, too.

Weather was nice. Service was frighteningly high-quality (housekeeping...dishes and dishwashers...fridge...those glasses and coasters like you find in hotels...my parents had a whirlpool bathtub...and yet, there was NO TOILET PLUNGER...). Everything went rather smoothly. Though the employees on the resort were very...I dunno...so professional and stringent, it was almost rude. Other than that minor bit of discomfort, it was all great. But, again, most of the family is still there, but the olders kids of the family had to come home early. Overnight drive...again, fun.

Oh, we also had a boat cruise. It was fun, except that the captain of the boat could probably have ruined the best joke in the world if he delivered it. Meh. Can't complain too much, though. I was on a boat. On a boat. Everybody look at me, I'm on...okay, let's not continue with that bit of ear worm.

There was HBO there, too. Dark Knight, the end of Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet, and the awesomeness that is Babe. Oh. And Speed Racer. Um, yeah. Speed Racer, indeed. Or Acid. And on another channel, Cash Cab. Which is a strangely...evil show. I may have nightmares about it sometime in the future.

Family bonding. Fun. Talked with one of the aunts about writing. Working on different things. Still struggling. Talked with a number about the plans for the near future. Also learned some bits of family trivia...apparently my dad hit someone with his lunchbox while at camp a long time ago. And may have broken that someone's fingers. He said that she (THAT wasn't in the quiz question, but it made it all the more shocking) had been provoking him.

And one of my uncles apparently kicked my dad unconscious while in their youth, too. And that uncle was also his now-wife's paperboy, too. There's something that you don't expect to happen outside of Hollywood or wherever.

I have an awesome family. Thank you, reunions.

In a completely different vein...

New Bleach episode was fun stuff. And Soul Eater 63...yeah. FLAILAGE. And anticipation. And angels all around!

And Star vs. Stein EFFTEEDUBS.

All of which PALES in comparison to Kidd's latest OCD escapade. Using your unhealthy obsessions to aggravate the villains? WIN.

I also read The Last Olympian while on break. Last Percy Jackson book. It was pretty darn awesome. Still nowhere near the level of the first one, but it was a good finish. I'm hoping he does more with that universe. Hopefully with a time-skip thing.

  • Mood: Sunny Mood
  • Listening to: Dragonforce.
  • Reading: Not Bleach manga yet. I need to crack.
  • Watching: Kung Fu Panda soon. Hopefully.
  • Playing: Pokemon Fire Red
  • Eating: Home food now.
  • Drinking: Mountain Dew Voltage.

Awesome trip you had :) I feel you on the boats thing. My favorite part about going to the lake or beach is the boating. Yay fishing!!

Sorry you had to curtail your vacation: sounds like a great resort (although toilet plungers are an essential tool for survival. How can you NOT have one?) and very enjoyable company. Is your aunt a writer?

MAJOR congratulations to your grandparents. I think 50th is a Diamond anniversary? *checks* Gold anniversary.

It's true, the thing about modern day society. When most people discuss what they think love means, they rarely mention 'someone to grow old with'. Which is sad, because I think that's the most important one for what the phrase 'growing old' encompasses...Yeah, congratulations to them. That's awesome.

And my brother's excited because the Percy Jackson books are marked as the First Camp Half-Blood storyline, so Riordan'll probably do more with that universe. Sort of like Tamora Pierce's Tortall books, old characters making cameos and all.

Yeah, my aunt's a writer. She's got one book out, I know, and is writing another one...which was eerie to discuss with her, because I talked about the deer one and my current deadlock because I don't know if I want to do dialogue or not...but she's working on something gender-specific, too. There were notable correlations.

Fire Bringer got brought up, and I may actually want to re-read that, though I don't want it to influence my work too much...

But as for toilet plungers, I think the place may have considered itself "too high-class" for those...some people may find toilet plungers offensive. Or something. That was my best theory. It's embarassing to be unable to unclog a toilet, though, and have to wait for housekeeping to do it. They had pathetic toilets, too...shiny, clean, very impressive, but they...couldn't do their job if put to the test. And when eleven people are in the house and about seven of them are using the same one...there are GOING to be trials.

Lovely conversation.

My grandparents are impressive in other ways, too. At least, my dad's side of the family...my mom's side looks older, they have stair trouble...they had THEIR fiftieth anniversary last year, so that makes it even more awesome, but the point is that they are...getting on. My paternal grandparents, though...not so much. Grandma's still playing tennis and taking walks, Grandpa's still roughhousing with the little ones and making his monster noises...

It was fun.

And to PJ, AWESOME. Again, I'm hoping for time-skip things. Because it's really awesome to have the kids from one plotline become the elders in another. :)

Wow! That's fantastic! Getting published is a much more difficult task than most realize. Do you mind if I ask what she's written?

And I loved 'Fire Bringer', although I actually ended up liking 'The Sight' a bit more. Larkaaaaaaaaaa...

I know I read it, but I've forgotten the title...

It was a teenage novel. Coming-of-age sort of thing. Father with cancer or something like that...I can't remember...

I started reading The Sight, but then quit when it developed too similarly to Fire Bringer. Alas.

nice that you had a good reunion. mine always seem akward.... most fo the family live in that same little town in that same area. 2 of the families moved off... one being mine. The last one we had, we were kinda like outsiders. (it doesn't help that i am antisocial)seriously does it hurt to let the other people in the family know what was going on. No one freaken told me Mandy got married!!!!!! I was embarrassed cause she had been married for a while and thought that i knew who this guy was.

and at one reunion that happened on the other side of the family (that I couldn't go to cause of work or school) apparently everyone thought that I had a kid and was pregnant for the 2nd time. Thankfully my Uncle knows me and my parents(cause he would have heard from my mom if i was) well enough to set them straight. *sigh* ~__~

wow i kinda ranted there....
