She laughs now

One of the best parts of the finale?

Mai laughed at a joke. From Toph. At the very end, during the final round of cast-speech in the show, you can hear Mai laughing at Toph's comment concerning Sokka's amazing art skills. It's a sign of just how much she's changed as a character--she's still as deadpan as ever ("I look like a man!"), but she's also, well...free. When everyone else laughs, she laughs along with them. She's...well, she's part of the "family" now. Which may include group hugs.

What started as a drawing of laughing Mai soon turned into her and Toph together....and then I decided to add Suki in there, because it seemed appropriate. There may be some height discrepancies, but I think they actually turned out pretty well, proportionately.

Suki's Ba Sing Se outfit is, like, the most awesome thing ever. It's gorgeous. I'm a little upset that we never got lose-ups on most of the costumes, though...Toph, Sokka, and Ma's, primarily (Suki actually has great shots of hers).

Suki's mouth gave me a few issues, and I'm still not happy with it, but it'll do for tonight. There are a number of technicalities that annoy me, but I might work on them later. I really love how Toph turned out, even if she looks somewhat boyish....

You may also notice that my all-digital work is expanding. You can see part of a hand and some arms now. Hopefully, I'll be able to go even further soon!

Anyone who hates this trio of BFFs gets a slap around the face. Because happy groups are totally made of win and should never be broken apart. Not when they make Mai laugh and have Iroh playing tsunghi horn in the background.

Oh, and Katara wasn't in this pic because I didn't feel like it...she's probably still off making out with Aang, or riding on Appa with him (Zuko and Sokka are probably sitting in embarassment, because the jokes being told are most likely about them).

This happy family belongs to Mike and Bryan. Two amazing, amazing storytellers.
