Room for Two

Wow, I'm on a roll here....

I really need to do something other than all of this Maizu fluff.

Even if Mai is finally starting to look good--practice really DOES pay off!

Initially, I was aiming for something a little cuter with a deviation intended to be called "Returning the Favor," with Zuko holding an umbrella above a sodden-looking Mai with the classic raincloud over her head (you know, the one that miserable cartoon characters have....). But then I knew that Zuko had to have one, too. I initially thought of having a symbolic one where panel one has Zuko with an umbrella with holes in it, panel two has Mai with another holed umbrella, but when they stand together, they can match the holes to the sealed points and thus protect themselves from their gloom clouds....but then I decided to take the easy way out and just do this. I also decided to shippify it by putting Mai's head on Zuko's shoulder. And so they both sit under the umbrella, and while there, neither of them has to feel gloomy. Which is pretty much my view of the Maizu ship--alone, they are sad and incomplete, but together, they can be happy. Even if they do end up in fountains.

Don't ask about their arms....I'm really happy with Mai's one hand, I mean SUPER happy....but the arms are a bit of a problem. I'll work on those. And Zuko's head looked fine before, but I hate it now. Mai, on the other hand....

Mai and Zuko belong to the creators of Avatar (who like Mai, apparently, for all you Mai-haters out there) and the owners, Viacom and Nickelodeon.

Oh, and yes, Mai's in her standard garb while Zuzu's in his final outfit....that one's easier to draw, and Mai's is more gloomy-Mai.
